Acupuncture originated in China over 2000 years ago.  It is a system of complementary medicine in which fine needles are inserted in the skin at specific points along what are considered to be lines of energy (meridians).

Acupuncture is an effective, natural and increasingly popular form of health care that is being used by people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds.

As a natural form of healing, acupuncture has the following benefits:

  • provides drug-free pain relief
  • effectively treats a wide range of acute and chronic ailments
  • Help alleviate Musculoskeletal disorders
  • Increase recovery time from sporting injuries

Many clients will note immediate benefit after the treatment, where as others note a positive
result 2-3 days later. Acupuncture has an accumulatory effect where the treatments build on each other.

At Palmwoods Physiotherapy and Sports injury Centre we adhere to the strictest regulations in regards to the use of single-use, sterile and disposable needles.

In dry needling, fine (sterile/single use) needles  are tapped virtually painlessly into the skin through a plastic tube. After insertion the needles are used to de-activate trigger points or “knots” in the muscles.

Dry Needling is used to compliment physiotherapy, massage treatment and exercise programs. The stimulation of muscle points and fine nerve endings can help in reducing pain and increase healing to the injured or painful area. Musculoskeletal conditions such as migraine, neck and back pain, arthritis and fibromyalgia are responsive to dry needling therapy.
